Royal Meadery was started by Gregory Wilhelm to combine his passion for beekeeping and brewing.  While getting his Business Administration degree at SUNY Cobleskill, and with the help from of one of his favorite professors, he came up with a business plan for Royal Meadery.  

He entered into the New York State Business Planning Competition and won the regional qualifier two years in a row and won second and third place in the Products and Services category at the state finals. These wins gave him the necessary seed money to get Royal Meadery off the ground. Royal Meadery is now run with his wife Kristen.

a beautiful idea came out of nowhere

When he started brewing, he grew his own hops and fruits to use in his beer.  What better way to help grow these ingredients than get a few bee hives.  Gregory has been keeping bees for over ten years in Upstate NY. Each year his beekeeping operation grows and is capable of producing more honey. While he uses more honey than he can currently produce, he looks to grow his apiary each year to expand his own honey production.

Production

Royal Meadery produces all of its products in a production facility alongside its tasting room in Delmar, NY. The production facility is equipped to produce both low alcohol carbonated meads and higher alcohol still meads. The new production facility has allowed Royal Meadery to produce both product lines along with some longer term barrel aged meads.

With New Yorks growth in the craft beverage industry, Royal Meadery aims to continue to grow its distribution footprint and product offerings to meet demand. Each year we look to release new and exciting products to put a modern spin on the worlds oldest beverage.
